A modern megalopolis resident often faces stress, anxiety, loneliness and emotional burnout. If you do not seek professional help in time, these conditions will worsen and have a negative impact on your quality of life. On World Mental Health Day, October 10, experienced psychologists told why it is important to monitor the mental health, when and why to contact specialists and how to cope with crisis situations.

What a psychologist does ?

Psychologists are often confused with psychiatrists who deal with serious clinical cases requiring medication – deep depression, psychosis, personality disorders and others. A psychologist, on the other hand, helps with crisis situations that cause stress, anxiety or despair. This may be the death of a loved one, divorce, problems in a relationship or at work.
“A psychologist will not judge, give advice, criticize, talk about himself or use the conversation for personal gain. He will take the gravity of the situation and take it seriously. Usually acquaintances and friends of the person who is having a personal crisis encourage him with words like “come on”, “distract yourself”, “don’t be sad”. Thereby they do not allow the person to live through difficult feelings, and it is necessary to live through them. One of the tasks of the psychologist’s work is to help the person not to give up emotions, and this means not to give up on life. Only in this way it is possible to comprehend a difficult situation, and not stay in a state of stupor, shock, crisis or deadlock,” explains the psychologist.
